Reflections

Ten years ago our country suffered a terrible tragedy. Each of us remembers what he was doing on the dreadful day. Here are the entries from my Bible journal right after September 11, 2001.

For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears. Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus; 2Corinthians 7:5-6

On September 11, 2001 the world trade center, twin towers, were attacked by terrorists flying planes into the buildings.

This verse reminds me of what we are going through right now.

We can only get our comfort through God. Turn to him He will give you rest.

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them. Ecclesiastes 9:11-12

We need to be ready; no man knows the hour he will pass from life to death.

“Time and chance happens to all”, good things happen to bad people and bad things happen to good people but death comes to all, and most of the time sudden without warning. We need to be ready, once you died it is too late.
Thousands of people died two weeks ago in the twin towers tragedy. How many went to heaven? No one knows but God and the people. The Bible says, we can know, “now is the time of salvation, repent (have a changed mind) and turn to Jesus.

Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good. Ecclesiastes 9:18

Maybe if more of our leaders had wisdom…

We need to pray for wisdom for our President at this time.

It is amazing, that I can read the Bible and finding truths for today. As I look at the situation we as a country find ourselves in, I realize God is a great God. His word is powerful and always current. It is not an outdated book but a very current up to date Book.

We need to search the Scriptures daily, now more than ever. Turn to God and His word while there is still time.

But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity. Ecclesiastes 11:8

The longer one lives the more sorrow he sees.

As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:10

Especially – (strong’s Greek 3122) most (in the greatest degree) chiefly, most of all

Household of faith – (strong’s Greek 3982) esp. reliance upon Christ for salvation

Look for opportunities to do good-
* Be kind
* Be helpful
* Be there

As we have just experienced a great tragedy in our nation (world trade center) people everywhere have helped; some with money, with blood, with food, with gifts and with clothing.

As Christians we should be like this always – in tragedy and in good times.
Look for opportunities to help others. You will be surprised what the end result will be.

This was an extremely stressful time for my family. My personal journal has daily entries during this period. My son was serving in the Navy and we had limited contact with him. God is good and protected Rob and our family.

As we remember and reflect on this time in history please pray for the families who lost loved ones. Many may be still grieving and all the TV coverage will bring it back afresh to their minds. When you see a serviceman or women thank them for their service to our country.

Think of what you can do to help others. Every day there are people in our communities who can use a helping hand. Pray and ask God.

Have a blessed day,
Donna
