Preparations for the Dedication

[27] And at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites out of all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem, to keep the dedication with gladness, both with thanksgivings, and with singing, with cymbals, psalteries, and with harps. [28] And the sons of the singers gathered themselves together, both out of the plain country round about Jerusalem, and from the villages of Netophathi; [29] Also from the house of Gilgal, and out of the fields of Geba and Azmaveth: for the singers had builded them villages round about Jerusalem. [30] And the priests and the Levites purified themselves, and purified the people, and the gates, and the wall. Nehemiah 12:27-30

The dedication of the wall begins. Measures were taken by the priests for the dedication; first all the Levites were gathered together, next came the gathering of all the singers, songs and instruments. The third preparation was to purify the priests, Levites, people and the gates and walls.

Everything needed to be cleansed. The cleansing process consisted of sacrifices as well as physical washings. Everything needed to be ready for the great dedication. The wall had been broken down and destroyed for years, now was the joy of getting everything ready for a great celebration.

The purification that is needed today is the cleansing of the soul by the blood of Jesus. The pictures in the Old Testament of cleansing lead into the pictures of the New Testament. In the Old Testament someone needed to die for the sins of the people yearly. In God’s perfect plan He sent His only begotten Son to die for the people once. The sacrifice is finished and complete. Have you been cleansed by the blood of Jesus?

Take a moment to do some “soul searching”. Have you accepted the sacrifice of Jesus? Praise God if the answer is yes. Maybe the answer was I’m not sure or no? Trust Jesus today as your savior and you will be able to answer with an astounding YES.

[16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. [17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:16-17
