The Tortoise and the Hare

Proverbs 4:26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

Psalm 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Today I listened to the tortoise and the hare at library story hour with my granddaughter. I have not thought of that fable for a very long time.

The librarian told the story while handing out flannel-graph pictures for the children to place on the board and he kept saying, “Slow and steady, slow and steady. The tortoise won the race by being slow and steady.”

We all know the hare lost by being over confident and just a little bit too cocky. He thought he had plenty of time so he took a rest. While resting he fell asleep as the tortoise past him by.

How are we in our Christian walk? Are we slow and steady or just a little too confident? Do we keep our eyes on the Lord as we walk to the finish line? Do we take “little” rests in the world and dabble in just “little sins” once in a while? Do we think we know so much about the Word of God that we never read it?

As you ponder the questions ask the Lord to show you what He wants you to do. We need to ask the Lord to help us to keep our eyes on the finish line, not to look at what others are doing but what he wants us to do. Praise Him for being a personal God and dealing with each of us as individuals.

Have a blessed day,
Donna
