What draws us away from God?

Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Romans 12:12

Distraction
I have been a little disheartened lately, mainly because more and more people are wandering away from God. I often wonder what draws people away from God. Pondering this I have come up with four reasons. I’m sure there are many, many more but here are my four: distraction, discouragement, depression and disappointment.

It is easy, in this life, to be distracted from the things of God.

Here are the meanings of distracted:
1. having the attention diverted:
2. rendered incapable of behaving, reacting, etc., in a normal manner, as by worry, remorse, or the like; irrational; disturbed.

How easy is it to have your attention diverted? Are you married? Do you have children? Do you care for elderly parents? Are you involved in activities outside your home? If the answer to any of these is yes, you have probably been distracted at one time or another.

We all have many “hats” that we wear. Sometimes it is hard to keep them all on straight. When the wind blows and our hats start to fall we get distracted. As we are running around picking up all our “hats” we take our eyes off God. We tend to forget that God cares about all the details of our life, the itsy bitsy problems as well as the humungous ones.

Distraction is a tool of the devil. If he can get us to take our eyes off our Leader, he has done his job. When life is going crazy, and it does daily for most of us, that is the time we need to focus on God. In the mist of distraction take a breath and say a little prayer asking God for direction. He has given us a promise, “... I will never leave or forsake you.”

Have a blessed day,
Donna
