Obeying the Word

[13] And on the second day were gathered together the chief of the fathers of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, unto Ezra the scribe, even to understand the words of the law. [14] And they found written in the law which the LORD had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month: [15] And that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, Go forth unto the mount, and fetch olive branches, and pine branches, and myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written. [16] So the people went forth, and brought them, and made themselves booths, every one upon the roof of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the street of the water gate, and in the street of the gate of Ephraim. [17] And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the captivity made booths, and sat under the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the son of Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great gladness. [18] Also day by day, from the first day unto the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according unto the manner. Nehemiah 8: 13-18

The people listened, heard and now obey the Word. The word was hidden from them for a long time. There are many reasons why it was hidden: people were in captivity, word was lost, or the word was ignored.

Sometimes we listen, we hear but it is the obedience part that most of us have a problem with. Do we obey all that the Lord tells us to? Do we listen and heed the still small voice?

The Lord deals with each one of us differently, but all the ways lead to obeying Him. It is our choice to obey or disobey.

I have not always been obedient to the Lord’s teachings. I wish I could go back and re-do some things. I cannot change the past, but I can apologize (if I have wronged someone) and change my way (attitude or actions) with the help of the Lord. If there is something you need to do to obey the Lord, just do it. It may not be easy but you will have peace knowing you did the right thing and were obedient.

And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient. Exodus 24:7

Who is God?

Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. Micah 7:18

Think for a few minutes, Who is God? It is breath taking, when you really think about who God is. We tend to take God for granted, treating Him like He is “one of the guys”. He is not one of the guys but the Great and wonderful God who made YOU. I sometimes wonder how people think. God is not in the “game” business, playing the game of I’ll do this for you God if you answer this prayer, _______ fill in the blank.

He does not do things our way. Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. He knows what is best. He knows the whole story. He is the all knowing God.

It is mind boggling when you think of the great universe and the Great Creator of the universe. Spending a few minutes at lunch time, I came up with a few descriptions of God.

Alpha and Omega
Beginning and End
Creator
Great I AM
Not a man
The self existing eternal One
Jesus
He is never ending
He is never changing
The same yesterday, today and forever
He is always there
Savior
Forgiving
Master
Personal God
The Only God
Word
Jehovah
Eliohim
Awesome
Longsuffering

The list goes on and on. God loves me and has done more than I could ever imagine. What can I do for Him?

Fear God
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:13

Obey God
Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. Acts 5:29

Reverence God
Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: Hebrews 12:28

Love God
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. Mark 12:30
