Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be
more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not
that they do evil. Ecclesiastes 5:1
Why do we attend a “house of worship”? Is it to get the
juicy gossip from the week before? Do we go to see who is there or what others
are up to? Hopefully you answered no to each question.
Seriously, why do you go to church? No one can answer the
question for you, the answer lies between you and God. The verse tells us when we go we need to be
more ready to hear.
What exactly are we suppose to hear? The Word of God
Going to church is not always about doing, doing, doing
but about listening, listening and listening. Our ears need to be attentive to
the Word of God.
What is God’s word saying to me? What does God want me to
do this week?
We need to be “more ready to hear” than give sacrifice.
God wants us to hear and apply His Word to
our hearts.
We have two ears
and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak. ~
Epictetus (Greek philosopher associated with the
Stoics, AD 55-c.135)
Have a blessed day,
