Comfort in the midst of sorrow

14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. 20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. 21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:14-21, 26-27

Jesus taught and instructed His disciples right up to the time He was taken away. The One who was to die for the sins of the world was reassuring and encouraging others.

The name Comforter is used four times in four different verses in the book of John. It is referring to the third part of the trinity, the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the Comforter that was left to indwell the believer. The Comforter came when the Son went back to heaven. The Comforter is with us now, comforting, encouraging and reassuring us through the Word.

The Comforter will only lead in the right direction. It is up to us to be more conscious of His presence and His leading.

Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. Psalm 25:5

For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me. Psalm 31:3

Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness. Psalm 43:10

Have a blessed day,

Verses of comfort

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 27:1

Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
Psalm 27:14

Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
Psalm 55:22

Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.
Psalm 68:19

But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.
Psalm 73:28

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
Psalm 103:2

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; 4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
II Corinthians 1:3-4

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
Hebrews 13:5 -6

Have a comforting day,

Finding Comfort

Psalm 3 A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.
[1]LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. [2] Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. [3] But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. [4] I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. [5] I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me. [6] I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about. [7] Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly. [8] Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.

What an encouraging psalm. King David was running away from his son. The Bible tells us that Absalom, his son, was turning the hearts of the men of Israel against David (II Samuel 15:12-13). There were people who were saying there is no help for him (vs. 2) but it doesn’t end there. Verse 3 starts with but, “but thou, O Lord art a shield for me.” God was King David’s shield. He was David’s protection. What more did he need with that kind of protection?

David was so discouraged that he cried to God, and God heard him weeping. Comfort from God was forth coming and he soon got some much needed rest (vs. 5).

When people and circumstances are against you remember God is there. Our God is greater than all. We get scared when one person gets upset with us. We shouldn’t be afraid if thousands are against us (as long as we are doing what God wants us to do).

Do you feel discouraged today, do you feel alone? Realize that God is with you. He is our great protector! He is with you no matter what the situation.

Trust God and be comforted today!

Have a great day.
