What can we give to the One who owns the cattle on a thousand hills? (Psalm 50:10) As you listen to this song remember all that the Lord has done for you.
In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan, Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone; Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow, In the bleak midwinter, long ago.
Our God, heaven cannot hold Him, nor earth sustain; Heaven and earth shall flee away when He comes to reign. In the bleak midwinter a stable place sufficed The Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.
Angels and archangels may have gathered there, Cherubim and seraphim thronged the air; But His mother only, in her maiden bliss, Worshipped the beloved with a kiss.
What can I give Him, poor as I am? If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb; If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part; Yet what I can I give Him: give my heart.
Text: Christina G. Rossetti, 1830-1894 Music: Gustav Holst, 1874-1934
I’ve always loved this hymn, having first learned it in Girl Scouts. Imagine the Girl Scouts teaching it today. I grew up in another time another era, an era where people were not afraid to teach about God. I learned the 23rd Psalm in the public school. Each and every morning my teacher would pray and read something from the Psalms.
As you gather together with family and friends take a minute or two or three to reflect on the goodness of God and all that He has blessed you with.
We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing; He chastens and hastens His will to make known; The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing; Sing praises to His Name; He forgets not His own.
Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining, Ordaining, maintaining His kingdom divine; So from the beginning the fight we were winning; Thou, Lord, were at our side, all glory be Thine!
We all do extol Thee, Thou Leader triumphant, And pray that Thou still our Defender will be; Let Thy congregation escape tribulation; Thy Name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!
Words & Music: This song of praise was originally written in 1597 to celebrate a Dutch victory. It appeared in Nederlandtsche Gedenckclanck, by Adrianus Valerus (Haarlem, Holland: 1626)
Arranged & translated from Dutch to Latin by Eduard Kremser in Sechs Altniederländische Volkslieder (Leipzig, Germany: 1877) Translated from German to English by Theodore Baker, 1894.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. Psalm 100:4
And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God. 2 Corinthians 8:5
Each and everything you do for the Lord makes a difference. We will not know the end result until we go to heaven.
I thank the Lord for bringing into my life a variety of teachers. I learned from some what to do, I learned from others what not to do, but the Lord used all to teach me.
I thank the Lord for a young woman named Susan (we worked together, many moons ago) who invited me to church and shared the gospel. It was a few years before I accepted the Lord but Susan became my friend and shared her Lord.
We don’t know how we touch others but we do know how others have touched us. As you listen to this song if a name comes to your mind, call, write or email them and let them know how they have touched your life. Be thankful for the people in your life, family, friends or acquaintances. Be thankful for the people who took the time to share the gospel with you.
I heard this song and tapped my feet, clapped my hands and praised God for all He does for me. Take a minute to think of some of the trials and tribulations you have been through. Then take another minute to think of what the sinless Son of God went through for you. Then take yet another minute or two or three to Praise and Thank God for everything.
Hallelujah Anyhow
I believe I’ll testify, God’s been good to me. Through every test and trial, I’ve got the victory The enemy has tried his best to make me turn around, bring me down But my God has never failed me yet so I’m gonna stand my ground.
No matter what comes my way I’ll lift my voice and say Hallelujah anyhow Wait a minute one more time I think I’ll say it again. God’s been so good to me; He’s my closest friend I’ve come too far to turn around now I’m gonna stand, I’m gonna wait, Watch God work it out somehow No matter what comes my way, I’ll lift my voice and say, Hallelujah anyhow!
Oh, Hallelu, hallelujah anyhow! Hallelu, hallelu anyhow! Hallelu, hallelu anyhow! Hallelu, hallelu anyhow! No matter what comes my way, I’ll lift my voice Oh, Hallelu, hallelujah anyhow! Hallelu, hallelu anyhow! Hallelu, hallelu anyhow!
No matter what comes my way, I’ll lift my voice and say Hallelu anyhow Hallelu anyhow I’ll keep singing Hallelu anyhow Hallelu any how
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18
It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23
I shudder to think of where I would be without the faithfulness of God.
It is only because of God’s goodness and mercy that we are not destroyed; thank you LORD for your mercy and love. God’s compassion toward us does not fail. His compassion is new each and every day. Great is His faithfulness.
Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. I Chronicles 29:11
Today is the day we are celebrating Independence Day. The quotes below show us what type of men started our country. Men who loved God and wanted to obey Him.
"God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the Gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever." 1781, Query XVIII of his Notes on that State of Virginia. -Thomas Jefferson
The doctrines of Jesus are simple, and tend to all the happiness of man.” -Thomas Jefferson
“We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We’ve staked the future of all our political institutions upon our capacity…to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God.” [1778 to the General Assembly of the State of Virginia] -James Madison
“God governs in the affairs of man. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured in the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. I firmly believe this. I also believe that, without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel” – Constitutional Convention of 1787, original manuscript of this speech -Ben Franklin
I have examined all religions, as well as my narrow sphere, my straightened means, and my busy life, would allow; and the result is that the Bible is the best Book in the world. It contains more philosophy than all the libraries I have seen." December 25, 1813 in a letter to Thomas Jefferson.-John Adams
“It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible.” -George Washington
"The church is the moral compass of society." -John Adams
"Men, in a word, must necessarily be controlled either by a power within them or by a power without them; either by the word of God or by the strong arm of man: either by the Bible or by the bayonet."- John Quincy Adams
"The foundations of our society and our government rest so much on the teachings of the Bible that it would be difficult to support them if faith in these teachings would cease to be practically universal in our country...." –President Calvin Coolidge
Enjoy the day with your families and friends. Thank a service man for his service to our country . Thank God for all He has given you.
